The last few weeks have been brutal, with the media laser-focused on the President’s age and almost bullying him out of the race. Many watched the past debate as two candidates attempted to degrade each other’s physical fitness when it was clear that both men were well into their senior years. It is time to get back to the issues at hand. Throughout the last few weeks, local Democrats have stayed focused on families, youth, and the working class, many of us frustrated at how easily the pundits get hung up on inessentials.

The record speaks for itself. President Biden’s efforts towards reducing college debt, passing the Chips and Science Act, and the inflation reduction bill have strengthened our economy. President Biden created more jobs than any past president, with over 15 million jobs in his first term. We must look to elect a President who will focus on an economy that supports all Americans and not just wealthy business owners. If former President Trump is reelected, his plans around tariffs, tax cuts, and a continued fight with China will only slow growth and raise prices.

Infrastructure needs to be addressed, and the very observable and inconvenient road construction across Idaho can be seen across America. We cannot allow bridges and byways to continue to collapse. Former President Trump had an opportunity to address American roads and bridges but failed to even propose legislation. On the other hand, President Biden passed a bipartisan Infrastructure Bill that invested over 300 billion in infrastructure and transit, including money that benefits Idaho. We must elect a President who can reach across the aisle and get the work done on behalf of all Americans.

We also need a President who can be an example. Leaders must support collaboration, acknowledge ethics, and leverage diversity. Leaders set the tone. Former President Trump, time and time again, has placed most of his effort on creating division. His business has been tailored to the rich and supported by working people. Unfortunately, former President Trump’s rhetoric has bled over into all areas of American politics. Blatant lies are cheered, and the rule of law is about what you can get away with.

And, even if we think it is silly to focus on, maybe we should redirect the conversation back to age since so many people have been highlighting it recently. If re-elected, President Trump would become America’s oldest President. The former President often mixes up names, an obvious sign his memory is fading. It is well documented that he cannot recall most of the day from January 6th, 2021.

President Biden and the Democratic Party have unwaveringly focused on what strengthens America and its working citizens. Voters can rest assured that their families, jobs, and financial security are in the capable hands of a party that values them above all else. Regardless of the Democratic candidate, all Americans can be confident in the Democratic Party’s commitment to their well-being.
