A tribute to Carrie Schied

It’s easy to get swept up in distractions or become paralyzed by the reality that, sometimes, national politics is beyond our sphere of influence. But we so often forget about the importance of local policy — and the fact that local issues aren’t partisan.

Carrie Scheid is one of those dedicated people who recognize that community is rarely built on parties or ideologies. Instead, her commitment to what truly matters in our lives is a testament to the good we as individuals can do in our communities.

Through her years serving on boards, fundraising for community-minded candidates of both major political parties and her tireless advocacy for things that matter, Carrie Scheid has been the very definition of a public servant. We can talk about money raised or go through a laundry list of accomplishments, but what fuels all this is heart, and the determination to make positive change in a way that we can see in our neighborhoods and in our lives and the lives of our fellow humans.

Our Idaho values reflect a priority on education, inclusiveness, the arts and humanities. Carrie has embodied the humanity in all of us in her efforts to promote not only the practical realities of day-to-day living and survival, but also the creative expression that highlights our humanity. The causes and people Carrie has supported over the years highlight her dedication to creating a Bonneville County where we can not only survive, but also thrive.

When we talk about bridging gaps and focusing on local issues that impact our everyday lives, Carrie has been a part of the conversation for years — and she has mentored the next generation of engaged citizens. She has encouraged young people to get involved and is willing to meet with anyone.

When we talk about someone who focuses on making their corner of the world better, there is no better model than Carrie Scheid. We appreciate her efforts, her dedication and her lasting impact on Bonneville County. May we all follow Carrie’s example and strive to build community and work toward a future that recognizes the humanity in all of us.

With respect and admiration, The Bonneville County Democratic Executive Committee
